The People Pleasing Way

A poem about people pleasing.

We put ourselves in a box
You know, we’re the people pleasing kind
To be the person of expectation
Instead of the person who we define

It’s like a never ending cycle
To live up to something we’re not
For no other reason but to feel
like we’re a part of the larger plot

But what if we broke that box
And built one of our own
To begin to live as our true colour
Maybe then we wouldn’t feel so alone

It’s a dichotomy, this is
You know, the people pleasing way
We are liked by so many
Except the one with the final say

So begin today to live
Your life on your own terms
Only to people please yourself
This life is your only turn

Stop waisting it on others opinions
and instead follow your own gut
For it’s the only thing that matters
And at the end of the day, who gives a fuck?!
